Founded in 1990, Taruithorn - Oxford Tolkien Society is both the Oxford Smial (branch) of the Tolkien Society and the student society of University of Oxford. We aim to promote interest in and cerebrate the life and works of the Professor J.R.R. Tolkien CBE and his connections to the University.
Taruithorn members usually meet on Friday evening in term time, with occasionally outdoor events. Everyone is welcome to come along to our events and sign up for our newsletters, while those who come regularly will be charged a small amount of membership fee. |

Miruvor is the magazine of the Oxford Tolkien Society. Historically, Miruvor was produced as a roughly-termly paper magazine from 1990 to 2006. After a hiatus, the magazine returned to life with two more issues in PDF form from 2011 to 2017. Click here to find out the archives.

The Oxford Tolkien Tour is a cherished annual tradition of Taruithorn, held during one of the weekends at the start of every Michaelmas Term. Starting from the Christ Church, this tour takes members through the historic sites in Oxford that played a significant role in J.R.R. Tolkien’s life and work. Guest Talks
Taruithorn occasionally host external guest speakers, offering members the chance to engage with experts and scholars in Tolkien's literature.
